Last week, the first cousin of a journalist and actress missing since 1963 phoned me about the case I recounted three years ago. The caller’s father became an amateur sleuth when his sister vanished. According to the missing girl’s cousin and uncle, investigators today may be close to locating Jane Clement.
Georgia man dies mysteriously in Baton Rouge
At 3:34, Monday morning, March 6, 2023, a passing motorist found the body of Nathan Millard, 42, a businessman from Walton County, Georgia, dumped in an abandoned garage in the 2900 block of Scenic Highway, walking distance from Exxon-Mobil’s Baton Rouge refinery. Someone had wrapped the corpse in plastic and a rolled carpet before leaving the body miles from Millard’s hotel. Hours after the discovery, Baton Rouge officials told a news conference they did not suspect foul play.
Interstate shootings, history repeating itself
Between June 2020 and October 2022, interstate highways inside New Orleans hosted an average of two random shootings per month. However, the 2022 total exceeded this average, reaching 30 freeway shootings last year. Two months into 2023, with eight shootings on Interstate 10, the average number of interstate shootings has tripled.

After reading last week’s Bayou Justice column on Louisiana State University student Allison Rice’s murder, a retired Baton Rouge police officer contacted me with a theory. He suggested the “carjackers” described by the Baton Rouge Police Department destroyed Allison’s SUV because they had no interest in the vehicle. The attackers, he believes, planned to abduct Allison and only killed her when she attempted to escape.
