Arrest made in 13-year-old cold-case homicide
Friday, February 10, at 2:41 in the afternoon, TPSO booked Montrey Paige – now a 30-year-old Hammond construction worker – into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail. Investigators charged him with second-degree murder, multiple failure-to-appear counts, and one charge of jumping bail.

Anglers found Catherine Ann Corbello Martin, 20, floating face down on Black Bayou, south of Lake Charles, in Calcasieu Parish just after eight in the morning, February 18, 1982. Someone had tied her hands behind her back, stabbed her seventeen times in the chest, strangled her, and dislodged her right eye from its socket.

After reading last week’s Bayou Justice column on Louisiana State University student Allison Rice’s murder, a retired Baton Rouge police officer contacted me with a theory. He suggested the “carjackers” described by the Baton Rouge Police Department destroyed Allison’s SUV because they had no interest in the vehicle. The attackers, he believes, planned to abduct Allison and only killed her when she attempted to escape.
